My Favorite Quotes from General Conference

Last weekend the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held their semi-annual General Conference. We stay home from our traditional Sunday meetings and listen to our Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson (seen above), our twelve apostles, and other men and women church leaders speak for two days. Below is a sampling of my favorite gems:

Your significant efforts to gain one attribute become the tide that raises all boats in the harbor.” Elder Scott D. Whiting

“Wait and trust in God and in His timing, because you can trust His heart with all of yours. But there is a second lesson here. My dear sisters and brothers, you too can pray for the Lord to open your eyes to see things you would not normally see.”– Sister Michelle Craig.

“Columnist David Brooks said: “Many of our society’s great problems flow from people not feeling seen and known. … [There is a] core … trait that we all have to get … better at[, and that] is the trait of seeing each other deeply and being deeply seen.” Sister Michelle Craig

“What am I doing that I should stop doing?” and “What am I not doing that I should start doing?”-Sister Michelle Craig

But the Lord has promised that the righteous who are faithful “may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness.”- Elder Quentin L. Cook

“And President Russell M. Nelson has urged us to “expand our circle of love to embrace the whole human family.”- Elder Dallin H. Oaks

“Two Yale University scholars recently reminded us: ‘

“For All of its flaws, the United States is uniquely equipped to unite a diverse and divided society…It’s citizens don’t have to choose between a national identity and multiculturalism, Americans can have both. But the key is constitutional patriotism. We have to remain united by and through the Constitution, regardless of our ideological disagreements.” Elder Dallin H. Oaks

“Differences can be turned to advantage instead of disadvantage. Only then will it feel as if the boat is moving on its own. Only then does pain entirely give way to exultation. Good “swing” feels like poetry.- Sister Sharon Eubanks

Unity doesn’t magically happen; it takes work. It’s messy, sometimes uncomfortable, and happens gradually when we clear away the bad as fast as the good can grow. “–Sister Sharon Eubanks

“The word willing is crucial to this interpretation of Israel. We all have our agency. We can choose to be of Israel, or not. We can choose to let God prevail in our lives, or not. We can choose to let God be the most powerful influence in our lives, or not.”-President Russell M. Nelson

“Each of us has a divine potential because each is a child of God. Each is equal in His eyes. The implications of this truth are profound. Brothers and sisters, please listen carefully to what I am about to say. God does not love one race more than another. His doctrine on this matter is clear. He invites all to come unto Him, “black and white, bond and free, male and female.” President Russell M. Nelson

“The Book of Mormon is our Latter-Day survival guide.”President Russell M. Nelson

“Life without God is a life filled with fear. Life with God is filled with peace.” President Russell M. Nelson

“The future will be glorious to those who will prepare and continue to prepare.” President Russell M. Nelson

“Even in turbulent times, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is gritty and resilient. It helps us sift through unimportant distractions. It encourages us to keep moving along the covenant path. Faith pushes through discouragement and allows us to face the future with resolve and squared shoulders. It prompts us to ask for rescue and relief as we pray to the Father in the name of His Son.” Sister Lisa Harkness

“When it comes to your happiness and salvation, it is always worth the effort to keep trying. It is worth the effort to adjust your lifestyle and traditions. The Lord is aware of the challenges you face. He knows you, He loves you, and I promise, He will send angels to help you.“- Elder Carlos A. Godoy

President Nelson concluded October 2020 General conference with:

“May we go forward together to fulfill our divine mandate—that of preparing ourselves and the world for the Second Coming of the Lord. I so pray, with my expression of love for you, in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
